Please note: When you respond to any of these ideas or comments, please send us a copy so we can post the information for others to view. Thanks and send to bssc@abaptist.org ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Missions I would like to know if there is a Spanish version of the materials? My church and I are going to Costa Rica and would like to stick with the same theme for their VBS. Please let us know. [ We do not have a Spanish version of our VBS materials. ] From: Ryan / Millheim BC / Akron O ______________________________________________________________ Idea: VBS Praise Report We at Eastern Star BC in North Little Rock, AR, just finished our VBS program last Week. On Friday when our pastor extended the invitation we had four young men come forward to give their life to Christ and one young lady united with Christian experience. What a blessing. Our congregation really enjoyed Winning with God's Team. Now, does anybody know what we can save to use for next year's program? Does anybody have any ideas of items we can start gathering now for next year? Many of the teaching for VBS are ready to start planning for next year. Does anybody have any information about the 2009 program? good luck to all who have not had their VBS session yet. God bless each of you. [ View VBS 2009 at www.bogardpress.org/vbs2009 ] From: Erika / Eastern Star BC / North Little Rock AR / eevans_pcssd@yahoo.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: VBS Countries We are working toward decorating our rooms for each of the countries. Kenya, we used netting from the ceiling with trees and wood animals. China, we did a food market. Mexico, used material and hats for one of the walls. Scotland, used boxes to begin with and then rounded them off and built a castle on top. Then for New Zealand built a mountain with snow on top and decorated with skis, etc. From: Bethel BC / Rockwall TX / nanadixon@sbcglobal.net ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Praises in Rison too! We just completed VBS in Rison, AR, this past week. Had a wonderful time with good attendance and lots of fun. most importantly though, the Lord used our efforts as His Spirit accompanied His Word to bless us with the opportunity to lead two children to Him for salvation! What a might God we serve! From: Robin / Bethel #2 MBC / Rison AR / wpeddy@tds.net ______________________________________________________________ Idea: VBS Praises I just have to send in a wonderful praise to the Lord for our VBS 2008. We had a precious soul saved! We had a wonderful week of fellowship and ended with a little girl being saved! There is no better results for all the work than to know someone has met the Saviour because of it! I just had to spread the "good news" from our GOOD NEWS GAMES. From: Debbie / West Bauxite MBC / Bauxite AR / debbie@ascark.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Puppets I would love to see puppet skits for this VBS theme. The last night of our VBS every class does a song or says a Bible verse, but I'd like to do a puppet show. However, I have been unable to find any that relate tot the topics. From: Tracey / americansweetie_30@msn.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Music Two very talented young men, Kevin Berry and Neill Roshto from the worship band “Uncommon”, have written and recorded 4 additional upbeat songs that go along with the Good News Game VBS theme. These energetic songs feature children’s voices on the recording that was professionally recorded, mixed and duplicated. For a copy of this recording contact Roshto Studios at 318-680-1852 or by e-mail at Neill@RoshtoStudios.com From: Konni / Roland Road BC / Monroe, LA / bbryan0417@wildblue.net ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Opening Assembly We just finished up our VBS and the children were really excited about having the drawing to be our torchbearer. We ordered our hand-held torch from littlebrightlights.com (19.95 plus shipping) and our 'Olympic flame' from indoorcampfire.com (89.95 plus shipping). The torch and flame were both battery operated using LED lights and a fan to make the 'fire'. But they look real! The visual effect was awesome! As we dimmed the overhead lights our torchbearer ran down the center isle carrying the torch to behind the pulpit area and climbed up a covered ladder to light the GOOD News Games flame each morning. Some of the adults actually had tears in their eyes. From: Konni / Roland Road BC / Monroe, LA / konni@faithbibleinstitute.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Flags I wanted to share a website that I ordered flags from that represent the 5 countries in this year's VBS. They are 3x5 poly flags and we paid $4.50 each. The website is www.lifeinflyingcolor.com I ordered the flags and received them in the mail 3 days later. From: Amanda / Garden Grove MBC / Prague, OK ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Missionaries
One idea I have presented to our VBS directors is to invite a missionary
from one of these countries to spend a week with us during VBS. I am
not sure if this idea will fly, or even if it does if we will find a
missionary available to come. I have heard of church's that had a
missions time during VBS. From: Donna / houserouse@aol.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Decorations I am gathering items to decorate each room in a different sport. We have a track and field room, a gymnastics room and basketball room so far. I think it will make it fun for the kids. From: ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Promoting VBS To generate excitement among our students, for 2 months before VBS, each time a student attends one of our church services their name will be entered in a drawing. The Sunday prior to VBS we will draw 6 names -- one for each morning of VBS and 1 for the closing program. The winners will have the honor of being our torchbearers -- carrying in the "torch" and lighting our Olympic "flame" (made with some modification to the idea found on page 44 in the Director's Plan Book.) From: Konni / Rowland Road BC / Monroe, LA / konni@faithbibleinstitute.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Decorations I have a question, who knows the exact name of the cardboard materials used to make many of the stand-up figures for the room decorations? I saw one this year for the muscle man picture spot and have heard about the material. I have gone to Lowe's and Home Depot here in North Little Rock but could not find the materials. What is the exact name of it and has anybody found it here in the Little Rock area? From: Erika / Eastern Star BC / North Little Rock AR / eevans_pcssd@yahoo.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Decorations This is my first year to be VBS director and I am very excited about it but also nervous. Please pray for me that I can do the things that God lays on my heart to do! Right now I have a couple of ideas. One, was to use 5 hula hoops and screwing them together and spray painting them for the Olympic rings and hanging them from the ceiling in the sanctuary for opening exercises. Another idea was to have the 3 podiums in the sanctuary for the kids to stand on when they walk in holding the Christian flag, the American flag and the Bible during the opening exercises. (Like they stand on when they win the bronze, silver and gold.) I look forward to VBS and I am excited to hear other ideas. From: Stacey / North Fork MBC / Paron AR / sbean72@sbcglobal.net ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Music We appreciated the music on transparencies last year, but found we could have used them better with copies of words only to be used with the overhead projector during music. We finally typed the words and made our own transparencies of words only. From: Margie / Calvary MBC / Owasso OK / owassomargie@yahoo.com ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Missionaries An idea I thought of was to partner with the missionaries our church supports. I am going to send them a letter in the first quarter of 2008 and ask for any literature or small items they could send with info about the country they work in. We are going to tie our theme in with the countries we have missionaries in. This will allow us to shed some light on our missionaries and bring a brighter awareness to their work. From: Terry / Friendship BC / Hurst TX / trw8128@charter.net ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Decorations A friend of mine actually came up with this idea which I though as pretty great: She thought of using different colored plastic table cloths to hang like flags from the ceiling . These can be decorated to represent each of the different lessons. These table cloths can be purchased for $2-3 at the local party supply store or online from Oriental Trading. Attach one end to a dowel rod and suspend from the ceiling with fishing line. From: Robin / 870-357-2355 / wpeddy@tds.net ______________________________________________________________ Idea: Material on CD After receiving my CEB yesterday, I'm fired up for 2008. I would like to offer this suggestion. I would like to see as much of the material as possible put on CD like is done for Sunday School. We did not order individual materials because we had no clue what the response to our school would be. We set a goal of 100 and planned accordingly. It would not have been good stewardship to order supplies for 100 and only use about 1/2 of them. Having materials on CD would offer us greater flexibility and help us to e good stewards of our money and of natural resources. I would like to see music from those different countries or have a link to national anthems from the lesson background countries. With the summer Olympics taking place next summer this would be a great addition. The extra clip art you have added in the past, it would be nice to see native dressed kids for us to add to our decor drawings. The trail tags were the best. It would be great to see those added back into the mix. Our adult students and children loved collecting those. Lastly, the earliest we could get our sample kit the more time we have to prepare. We hit the ground running after we attend the publisher seminar i February. I ordered early in January of this year but did not understand that it would take several weeks to be shipped. We love your VBS product. From: Eastern Star BC / North Little Rock, AR / eevans_pcssd@yahoo.com ______________________________________________________________
